Hungarian Water Buffalo

This animal is kept for its draught power. It produces 1000 to 2000 litres of milk rich in fat which is suitable to make cheese (mozzarella, feta, etc.) of it. Its meat is rough fibred, but palatable. This breed is black with a typical horn shape, has a stocky, bony, bulky and solid body conformation and is an excellent draft animal. It was brought into the Carpathian-basin around the 6th century when the Avars settled the region. We keep a specimen for demonstration purpose.
